Casey Moran joins us this week as a special guest host. We start out with our check-in and talk about 24-hour news programs, intermittent fasting, and Joleen opens up about her desire to look into the 12 steps and finding a sobriety community. Joleen has to head out early, but Casey and Andy keep the podcast train a-going! Casey talks about the progress we’ve made as a podcast and shares his excitement for the next live show. Casey opens up about his depression and how he has had to come to terms with his mental health and remain active in vigilant. Ep 54: Caregiving, Crohn’s, MRI’s, Grief, with Felicia Michaels

We are joined today by the absolutely wonderful and talented comedian, writer, and Director, Felicia Michaels, to talk about a condition that has plagued her family. We talk about her mother’s diagnosis of Crohn’s Disease in the 1970’s and how this greatly impacted her life from a young age. Felicia also shares her own personal journey with Crohn’s disease and the bizarre and terrifying pain that resulted in a surprising diagnosis. We get raw and real and we also laugh and smile and Felicia inspires us with her strength and tenacity. We also talk about our country’s healthcare and social welfare programs that were a great asset to Felicia’s life, especially in the midst of daunting and overwhelming responsibility as she found herself taking care of her mother as a child. We talk about the progress made in treating and understanding Crohn’s Disease and acknowledge that there is still a long way to go. (Replay) Laura shares her experiences with vision loss, including seeing shadows, undergoing surgeries, and retinal detachment. We hear her vision bucket list and we talk aortic heart surgery, echocardiograms and being told at a very young age that you’re not going to live past the age of 14. We also discuss depression, finding the medications that will work for you, and being on suicide watch. Laura shares her unique experience being both a therapist and a patient and how it helps with diagnosis and empathy. We chat about techniques for forming good habits and coping.

Laura is also very involved with fighting for indigenous rights and she talks about how her heart was calling her to the North Dakota Access Pipeline. She shares her experiences about what was really going on at and during the protests.

Jay shares the pressures he faces as a black man to appear strong for his friends, family, and kids. He talks about some of the darkest moments in his life and how he has battled with severe depression and anxiety, stemming from the death of his mother at a young age. He shares how seeing a therapist and getting a diagnosis has been helping to change his life.

Today we are excited to have the hilarious comedian and talented actress Katsy Chappell on the podcast. Katsy shares her comedy and entertainment path with her infectious comedic storytelling style and drops words of wisdom throughout the episode. Some shows and movies where you may have seen Katsy include: Hollywood Squares, Roseanne, In Living Color, and True Lies. She also killed it on Star Search making it to the semi-finals. Katsy also talks about life as a 300 pound woman and shares her experience as a model. We talk broken bones and recovery and hitting that wall and taking a break from Hollywood. Joleen and Katsy share their experiences performing for our troops overseas and Katsy talks about breaking bones and the pain that made it hurt to walk. We talk weight loss and diabetes and having to relearn how to eat. We also talk soap making and crafting.
