She has a unique perspective as she has her Masters in Clinical Psychology and we talk about what it was like to be on both sides of a therapy session. We talk about ageism and sexism in the entertainment industry and how it effects our personal lives and careers. Andy and Joleen share their hopes and thoughts on parenthood and get raw and vulnerable with Lynn. And we leave you with some of our comedy mantras.

Ep 19: Fame, Family, Mental Health, with Jay Washington

(Replay) Jay Washington is a rising star in the comedy and acting world. He is beloved in the industry as a happy, funny, outgoing performer. On the surface, everything looks perfect, but we find out that things aren’t always what they seem. Jay shares the pressures he faces as a black man to appear strong for his friends, family, and kids. He talks about some of the darkest moments in his life and how he has battled with severe depression and anxiety, stemming from the death of his mother at a young age. He shares how seeing a therapist and getting a diagnosis has been helping to change his life.

Also in this episode, Joleen shares some updates on her search for a depression and anxiety medication that works for her brain chemistry and some of the misconceptions around medications. Andy shares her fears about memory loss.

Ep 18: Breast Cancer, Fertility, Chemotherapy, Friendship, with Sofiya Alexandra

(Replay) Comedian and writer Sofiya Alexandra joins us to talk about her battle with breast cancer. Sofiya shares that there are so many misconceptions around breast cancer and chemotherapy, and so much that people just don’t know. We talk about the difficult diagnosis process, the BRCA genetic test, mammograms, ultrasounds, MRI’s and the importance of your family history. We talk about how birth control pills were feeding the tumor and the possible connection because of the tumors receptors and we talk about being an atypical patient. In the second part of this episode, we talk about the devastating complications chemotherapy can have on fertility and what Sofiya’s options were. Sofiya details the painful and difficult chemotherapy process and we talk about the effect cancer can have on relationships.

Do you have a friend or family member going through cancer and chemotherapy? Sofiya shares things that were very helpful for her recovery and tips and advice that might help others support their loved ones. Everybody is different, but this is what helped Sofiya.

Also in the episode. Andy updates us on lifestyle choices and how they have affected her health recently and Joleen shares her past and current experiences with studdering, including pronouncing her husband’s name incorrectly the first 6 months they dated.

Ep 41: Video Game Addiction with Xchel Hernandez

Xchel Hernandez joins us today to talk about video game addiction. He is a Comedian, writer, director, and wonderful husband to Joleen. We hear his origin story, and how the addiction escalated as time went on to as much as 40 hours a week or more. Xchel shares with us how playing could be incredibly social in its own way, and how he was even married once before inside of a video game. Joleen has a lot to say about this! Xchel talks about how he was finally able to break the addiction and how his priorities and perspectives have changed. He has discovered and implemented new tools to combat addiction and to follow the goals that are more important to him. We also talk about how our cell phones have become a new source for video game addiction as well.

Xchel leaves us with some words of wisdom and the techniques that worked for him to defeat his video game addiction!
