Ep 12: Parenting a child with a health condition, Positivity, and Marfans with Andy’s Mom

Posted on Leave a commentPosted in episodes

We talk with Jolynn Erikson Olson (Andy’s mom!) and we discuss the dynamic between parents and children with health conditions. What is it like to know there is something wrong with your newborn baby, but not knowing what, and having to fight for a diagnosis? What was it like doing research before the internet? And as a parent, how do you make difficult and risky medical and life decisions for your child?

We talk therapy and how my mom had to take on a lot of responsibilities at a very young age. We also talk a little about religion and politics and following our dreams.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS:

“As a mother, you just know that you want your child to be happy.”

“I think I want fans more than kids…”

“Love your kids and always tell them they’re amazing and that can do whatever they dream they can.”

“Love each day, life is short, and every day is a gift.”

“I want to do twice as much as a normal person does every day so that if I live to be 80, it’s like I lived to be 160.”
