Ep 25: Ehlers Danlos, Autoimmune Disease, Chronic Pain, with Sue Redman

Posted on 2 CommentsPosted in episodes

Actor, writer, director, and producer Sue Redman joins us to talk about her diagnosis journey and the obstacles she has faced along the way. We discuss how pain and illness affect our lives, careers, relationships and gives us a different perspective of the world. Sue talks about having an autoimmune disease and how she was in the best shape of her life and all of a sudden it was like her brain would shut off and she couldn’t function, and on top of that, she would get abject depression. We talk about the surprising things doctors do and say and what it’s like to not understand what is going on with your body. We also talk about Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and its connection to Marfan Syndrome.

To wrap up the episode we discuss this IFLS article: Do Humans Love Dogs More Than People? http://www.iflscience.com/plants-and-animals/study-explains-empathize-dogs-people/

THE CHECK IN: Andy talks about panic attacks and working out. Joleen updates us on meditation and her experience with a great Facebook support group.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS:

“I’m really good at hip thrusts, like really good.”

“A doctor once asked me: have you considered giving up on your dreams?”

“When I’m having an anxiety attack, I look around my room and take note of what is real.”

“Wellbutrin was like… I could flip a car right now! Let’s rob a bank!”
