Ep 5: Narcolepsy, Independence, Dreams, with Sam Howard

Posted on Leave a commentPosted in episodes

(Replay) What is it like to not be able to wake yourself up? What is it like to wake up in strange locations? Can you sleep while you’re awake? Sam Howard shares the misunderstandings surrounding Narcolepsy and her journey to getting a diagnosis and finding a treatment that works for her.

Joleen returns from New York and shares her empowering experience in Manhattan. We talk about dealing with fears and trauma from living and using transportation in big cities and Andy offers some practical bus advice. Sam shares the power of a hug, the stigma surrounding body hair, and we discuss our ideal swimsuits. (Squirrel costume!) Sam talks dreaming big and taking on the world and she answers listener questions: “Are you allowed to drive?” and “Is Narcolepsy genetic?”

Memorable quote: “You’re my assistant, but I bring you coffee in the morning.” -Sam’s boss, recommending a sleep study
